May in England; too hot for boots, too cold for sandals. I’m with you in thinking ‘What on earth do I put on my feet?’
I don’t ‘tell’ anyone what to wear. I’m not that kind of stylist. We’ve been around long enough to wear what we like. I guide and suggest, point out your great bits, show you how to dress like ‘you’. It’s up to you if you want to listen…
But I have been known to get sniffy about accessories. A tee shirt and jeans is timeless, it’s the bits you add that do the work. A great haircut, spectacles, jewellery, bag or scarf can elevate any outfit, make old friends look current.
So, back to our feet. I can’t tell you how happy I am about the this season’s ‘active’ footwear trend. Easy, comfortable, smart if you want it to be.
Though it has a really daft name – Athleisure – which I can’t quite bring myself to say. So I’m going with ‘Trainers Gone Posh’.
I only buy what I love and my heart skipped a beat when I saw the Brogues-Cum-Trainers (pictured above) in Imelda’s Shoe Boutique in Norwich. They’re by Tamaris and retail at £70. I wore them out of the shop, and dumped my tired old loafers in a bin. This could have backfired, but several hours later my feet were still happy.
Imelda’s is a joy, by the way. Amazing customer service from owner Irene, with everything from the wildly comfy to just ‘wild’ (Irregular Choice, Fly, Vagabond, Melissa…)
Along with Trainers Gone Posh there are many comfy flatties around from brogues to flatform wedges. Cool (in all senses of the word) without showing your toes, and lighter colours to reflect the season.
They’re my level of smart, and I can run in them (essential if, like me, you’re always slightly late…) And life’s so much more fun when your feet don’t hurt.
Here’s some more you might like.
Until next time, from a comfortably shod
